I became involved with self defence at the very early age of 6, my Grandfather , and Australian amateur Boxing champion (John Ferguson) along with my dad, also an accomplished boxer instructed me in the finer points of Queensbury rules. It didn't take long for me to realize that boxing was more a gentleman's sport rather than a defence. Especially while others are using their feet to attack.
I then followed on with Karate at the local Bob Jones School. This soon ran out of steam when I became 15 years old as Football and girls where my major passion.
It was not until I reached 20 yrs old that my eyes were about to be opened. I managed to gain a position as Event security through a friend at Festival Hall with bands The Angels, Rose Tattoo, and The Choir Boys. Sounds great. I nearly got killed about ten times that night. That was to be my introduction to the security Industry in Melbourne. I was to spend the next 17 years working in pubs and clubs throughout Melbourne and surrounding suburbs. From King Streets infamous Tunnel nightclub to Mornington's Cruise Club and everywhere in between. I worked for Protect Security under the well known and highly accomplished Dave Hedgcock, as well as Combined Security International, Complex Security Management, T Ryan Security, just to name a few. I also worked "In House security" for many other venues.
I was later to return to Martial arts where I studied for several years under Soke Tony Ball 7th Dan (FOUNDER) of the Fudoshin Bujitsu School which incorporates many Styles including Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, Kung-Fu and Karate
I then followed on training in traditional Japanese weaponry.
In 2008 I completed level1& 2 Instructor certification in Reality Based Personal Protection (RBPP) Instructed personally by Jim Wagner, making me the highest ranking Instructor in WA.
Jim Wagner Reality-Based Personal Protection (RBPP) is the self defence system developed by former United States Federal Agent and 2006 Self Defence Instructor of the Year.
I was so impressed with the Reality Based Personal Protection System I have decided to pass the knowledge on. It is the only system I have found that comes close to being able to prepare you for the brutality exhibited by thugs and criminals, as well as the types of attacks associated with them.
During my time in the security Industry I have been involved with countless altercations; many escalating to physical fights a handful of them have involved edged weapons, 2 of them involved firearms.
